ZAKER | Plant-Based Materials Expand Across Multiple Sectors, Turning Sustainability into Reality

Admin - 2026.10.23

The word "sustainability" has been repeated so often over the past few years that the concept has gradually been diluted. For a materials company, the real difference lies not in whether it can tell a good green story, but in whether plant-based materials can leave the laboratory, make their way into real products across industries, and meet the standards each industry requires.

ZAKER's multi-sector rollout is not a list of applications claiming to cover every industry. It is a phased industrialization path: built on a single plant-based material platform, we complete each sector's industry admission assessment independently.

Making Sustainability More Than a Concept

To make sustainability more than a concept, a rollout must withstand scrutiny. Three questions matter:

  • Which product has it been applied to?
  • How far has it progressed?
  • Against what standard has it been verified?

Multi-Sector Rollout: Start with the Progress Bar

The industry has never lacked samples. What it lacks is the industrialization capability to take a sample through to mass production, and to turn "can be applied" into "already delivered."

Drawing on plant-waste valorization technology, ZAKER converts non-food plant raw materials such as coffee grounds and coconut shells into high-performance plant-based leather. Paired with a water-based process system, it achieves low VOC and DMF-free production, while product carbon footprint accounting and full life cycle assessment (LCA) are completed in parallel.

From Xiaomi Iced Americano to the MOFT Coffee-Ground Series

Consumer electronics is one of the?solid results of ZAKER's multi-sector rollout, and it goes beyond a single product.

The back cover of the Xiaomi "Iced Americano" edition phone, released in 2025, is wrapped in ZAKER's coffee-ground leather.

Xiaomi set nearly one hundred special performance requirements. Our R&D team initially estimated the chance of success at under 20%, but we never gave up. Within six months, we completed over a thousand formulation tests and ultimately brought the thickness tolerance down to ±0.01 mm, setting a record for the fastest mass production of a new material in the customer's history.

A further signal came from our collaboration with MOFT. This August, MOFT launched its Coffee Collection, which includes a magnetic phone stand and a multi-functional folding laptop bag. The material is plant-based leather that combines recycled coffee grounds with water-based bio-based polyurethane, preserving the natural brown granular texture and faint roast aroma of the coffee grounds.

ZAKER's entry into this product line means that our rollout in consumer electronics has extended from a single phone back cover to mass-produced products sold directly to consumers by an accessories brand.

Apparel, Footwear and Bags

Apparel, footwear and bags are also a mainstream application sector for plant-based leather.

ZAKER's plant-based material has already been used in the snake-print aviator jacket in the Stella McCartney × H&M Spring 2026 collaboration collection.

Being selected for this collaboration means the material successfully passed the rigorous review of an internationally demanding brand, left the laboratory, and entered the mass-production line of a global fashion name, reaching consumers worldwide.

ZAKER's plant-based leather has already reached market applications at the hundred-thousand-meter scale and has been adopted by multiple pilot brands at home and abroad.

Authoritative Testing Underpins the Safety Baseline

In the maternal, infant and home sector, the core requirement is not only that a product looks good, but that the material itself is healthy and safe.

ZAKER's plant-based material has obtained OEKO-TEX? STANDARD 100 certification. This is not a generic environmental claim, but a professional safety certification system for synthetic leather, with testing that covers formaldehyde, heavy metals, allergenic dyes, phthalates and other substances closely related to safety in contact with the human body.

The confidence behind ZAKER's rollout in the maternal, infant and home sector comes from test reports and authoritative certificates, one after another.

Looking Back

Looking back, ZAKER's multi-sector rollout is not a list of applications claiming to cover every industry, but a phased industrialization path.

The key to making sustainability more than a concept is making the rollout withstand scrutiny: which product, how far along, and verified against what standard.

When every "can be used for" becomes a "has reached this stage," and when a green raw-material solution turns into manufacturing capability that is mass-producible, auditable and traceable, sustainability is no longer just a green narrative. It becomes certainty in what the market actually receives.
